PUBLIC NOTICE

The PIERCE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS has tentatively adopted a millage rate which will require an increase in property taxes by the following amounts:

  • 14.64% over the rollback rate in the Unincorporated Area
  • 14.06% over the rollback rate in the Incorporated Area

All concerned citizens are invited to the public hearings on this tax increase to be held at the Pierce County Board of Commissioners meeting room located at
705 College Ave, 2nd Floor, Blackshear, GA.

This tentative increase above the rollback rate will result in a millage rate of:

  • 10.720 mills in the Unincorporated Area; an increase of 1.369 mills
  • 12.90 mills in the Incorporated Areas; an increase of 1.59 mills

Without this tentative tax increase, the millage rate would be no more than:

  • 9.351 mills in the Unincorporated Areas
  • 11.31 mills in the Incorporated Areas

The proposed tax increase for a home with a fair market value of $100,000 is approximately:

  • $54.76 in the Unincorporated Areas
  • $63.60 in the Incorporated Areas

The proposed tax increase for non-homestead property with a fair market value of $50,000 is approximately:

  • $27.38 in the Unincorporated Areas
  • $31.80 in the Incorporated Areas

About Pierce County

Pierce County, established in 1857 and named for President Franklin Pierce, grew out of Appling and Ware counties' lands.
The county seat, Blackshear, bears the name of General David Blackshear who fought Indians in Georgia and Florida during the War of 1812.
